ORAC, the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity system was developed by the scientists at the National Institute on Aging in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Baltimore Maryland in conjunction with the USDA to reliably quantify the anti-oxidant capacity of foods and supplement compounds. ORAC is reported in Trolox Equivalents (TE), per one gram of product tested. Trolox is a water-soluble vitamin-E like compound that is used as the standard. The technology to accurately do this testing was developed and patented by Brunswick Labs [1]. In short, ORAC is a lab assay that can measure the antioxidant activity of any substance and give it a number. The higher the ORAC number, the stronger the antioxidant properties are of the substance. Free radicals or oxygen radicals and the damage they can do at the cellular level are quit extensive. The oxidative stress caused by free radicals which are produced during normal metabolism and cell function, as well as pollutants in our air, water and food is implicated in everything from aging and wrinkling of skin to DNA damage, diabetes, cancer and heart disease. The good news is that the body is not left to the ravages of these free radicals. Antioxidants like the one's found in HEALTHYSTART offer powerful, effective protection for the body and cells against their oxidative stress, by blunting the damaging effects of free radicals. The consumption of high ORAC foods and supplement compounds like the one's found in HEALTHYSTART are critical for sustaining and improving the body's health, as they eliminate free radicals that contribute to or cause health issues such as cancer, aging, heat disease, arthritis, asthma and many other diseases and conditions. This is clearly an issue for anyone concerned about their heath.

Individuals focused on eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables especially the dark-colored ones each day still may not be getting an adequate supply of ORAC value, the problem is that 9 out of 10 people do not follow a stringent guideline daily. If a person works out and is active or is exposed to a lot of sun or has been sick they may need to increase there intake even further, for this reason some form of added supplement compounds like the one's found in HEALTHYSTART needs to be addressed to properly protect the body from free radical damage. The USDA recommends we consume 3,000 to 5,000 units daily. In truth, 80% of the population is consuming less than 3,000 units/day, with some estimates showing people consume less than 1,000 units/daily. The USDA recommends "5-a-day" fruit and vegetable servings; this may only give you an ORAC score of about 1,750 units depending on what variety of fruits and vegetables are chosen. By using two packets per day of HEALTHYSTART that contains Extracts ORAC 2000 Proprietary Blend and its unique Collagen based protein source in conjunction with a diet containing only 1,000 ORAC units of food, will give your body the recommended ORAC intake (USDA) of 5,000 units per day. This can increase the body's blood plasma level of antioxidants by more than 25%.

Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (OPCs)

Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) like the one's found in HEALTHYSTART are naturally occurring substances present in a variety of food and botanical sources. They are unique flavonols that have powerful antioxidant capabilities and excellent bioavailability. Clinical tests suggest that OPCs may be as much as fifty times more potent than vitamin E and twenty times more potent than vitamin C in terms of bioavailable antioxidant activity. In addition to their antioxidant activity, they strengthen and repair connective tissue, including that of the cardiovascular system, and they moderate allergic and inflammatory responses by reducing histamine production. OPCs are found throughout plant life, however, one main source is found in Grape seed extract, with other powerful OPCs are found in HEALTHYSTART
